A drop in shower is best thrown after the baby is born. This shower is an informal shower, one where guests stop by at different times during predetermined times.
Baby shower themes:
A drop-in baby shower has an obstacle if the hostess wants a baby shower theme. All the guests will not be present at the same time. So find a theme which can be established largely on decorations alone.
Baby shower invitations:
Inform guests this is a drop-in shower. Indicate what hours guests may drop in on your invites. Since this is an informal event, emails can also be sent. We recommend a 2-3 hour time span, since the parents will likely be tired from caring for the little one.
Decorations:
Stick to traditional decorations. You'll want to include an 'It's a boy/girl' banner. Weave your color palette into the decor near the baby bassinette. Check out our decorating ideas for inspiration.
Games and prizes:
Since guests will be coming and going, play games that don't require guests to all be together to play. We suggest:
The menu:
A simple, buffet-style menu will work best. Pre-prep foods are a must.
Party favors:
Snap a picture of each guest with the mother-to-be and the baby. Mail out these pictures with the thank-you notes.
YeahBaby.com thoughts:
A good choice for a guest list that isn't necessarily close to the mother-to-be, but still want to show their support (fellow club or church members, colleagues, etc.)
