Once your theme is chosen, decorate your party headquarters appropriately. Those on a budget can put up streamers and a banner congratulating the mother-to-be. You'll also want to have party favors at the door and scattered around the venue.
For gift-giving ease, have the mother-to-be create a gift registry, and include the info on the invites. If the baby shower is for a second child, the mother-to-be may have most of what she'll need. If this is the case, discuss with the mother what baby items are needed, and pass that info on to the guests.
Greet each guest as she enters the party. Make appropriate introductions. Play background music. Serve (non-alcoholic!) drinks. Play ice-breaking games like the baby shower guest game, or the penny icebreaker activity.
Set formality aside and enjoy the party. Forget a rigid schedule and go with the flow of your party.
