Baby shower cream puffs

The recipe idea:
Cream puffs offer an elegant alternative to traditional baby shower cakes. These delectable individual desserts are filled with cream, and optionally topped with chocolate.

Ingredients:
For cream puffs

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup flour, sifted
  • 4 eggs, unbeaten

Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. In heavy saucepan, combine water, butter and salt. Over medium heat, cook until butter melts and water starts boiling. Turn heat to low. Add flour and stir until batter pulls away from edge of pan and forms a ball.
Remove pan from heat. Beat in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each egg is added. Drop dough by tablespoons onto a greased cookie sheet. Place each cream puff at least 3 inches apart. Shape so that there's a slight peak in the center of each cream puff. Bake until golden brown (about 30 minutes, depending on your oven.) Transfer to wire racks. Cool completely.

For filling

  • 1 large box vanilla pudding, prepared
  • 1 6-ounce carton heavy whipping cream

Prepare vanilla pudding according to box. Cool. In separate bowl, beat whipping cream until firm. Combine pudding and cream. Cut cream puffs in half, and fill with cream mixture. Drizzle or dip in chocolate, if desired.
